I've never used any special tools for doing brakes on any of my vehicles, as well as those of friends and family when I've done them.

For the fronts I use a large C-clamp and small piece of wood to press the caliper piston back into its body/bore. Make sure to do it slowly and to monitor the rubber boot so that it folds in on itself correctly when sliding back into the bore. Also be sure to open the top of the brake fluid reservoir so pressure is released as the fluid is being pressed backwards and into it. Most, if not all, front brake systems can be done in this manner.

The rear brake systems are different depending upon the manufacturer. My wife's Rendezvous/SUV uses the same procedure above for the rears. My Nissan 300ZX had small slots in the piston that I would slip a small flat-bladed screwdriver into and had to be turned into its bore. My 9000CSET has a small Torx set screw behind the caliper that you turn to pull the piston back into its bore. I forget how I did it on my 900TC, but I'm sure it's been posted here on the board and definitely did not need special tools.

Don't waste your money. All you really need are basic tools that are in your tool box. Even for the old drum-style brakes, they would sell these spring-removal tools when all you needed to use was a pair of pliers!
