general smogging questions.... Posted by baggsly [Email] ![]() ![]() |
part one: what does the gas cap test do? small crack in mine so when they put the sucker machine on it that failed, but what does the gas cap do in regards to not allowing air in and passing smog?
part two; when i last got the car smogged 2 years ago it read:
idle (900 rpm) 12.9% co2, 2.6% o2, 21 ppm hc (29-120 range), 0.01% co (0.1-1.0 range).
running (2490 rpm) 13.8% co2, 1.5% o2, 10 ppm hc (20-140 range), 0.03% co (0.1-1.0 range).
this year, or this week, it read:
idle (859 rpm) 14.9% co2, 0.3% o2, 1 ppm hc (29-120 range), 0.00% co (0.1-1.0 range).
running (2472 rpm) 15.0% co2, 0.2% o2, 3 ppm hc (20-140 range), 0.00% co (0.1-1.0 range).
so my co2 is up a couple of points, but everything else is basically improved, so what does increase in co2 mean to me?
car was a static cali smog test (didn't require dynomometer test yet), and i had replaced vacuum lines and rubber plugs to tb, cleaned throttle body butterfly, replaced pcv valve and check valve and sealed plug to vc, and replaced vc gasket and dist o-ring (which should be unrelated). new stock muffler and tailpipe to replace the 16 yo swiss cheese looking but sportier sounding stock one :-)). car is stock '90 900T other than that.
any ideas would be appreciated, just in case i need to be keeping an eye on the arcane science of smoggy things. mark :-)
