For if you shared my personal geographical prejudices you'd know that nothing south of Albany or west of Syracuse is truly Upstate, and New England does not, in fact, include Connecticut any longer. From the Adirondack Park, however, I've regularly crossed Lake Champlain to find serious wrench wizards and machine shops who know what a Saab wants. The guy there who sold me the used 5 speed for my conversion took half a day off to rebuild it while I waited after I found a crack in the case. Good guys.
Yeah, it's a great DIY project if you have the space, time, and patience for it; the car will definitely be Yours in a way it wasn't previously, but insufficient resources/preparation can turn that job into Such the ordeal... I'm NOT interested in pulling my motor out in a friend's barn again.
