1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Previously I drove an '87 900S and have relocated to Jacksonville, Fl.
I packed up my Saab in Rochester New York with +/- 500 lbs of my worldly posessions, incl. a commercial espresso machine and drove it as far as Asheville
NC where I crashed it into the cement barrier going close to 90mph
down a HUGE! mountain road - Interstate 40 East, coming out of the Great Smoky Mountains, It was very foggy, just me and the semi's at 3 in the morning - Ooops
!!! But I was/am OK!!! I crashed the rear passenger
side wheel so that got the worst of the wall... It chewed up the rimes and rear quarter but started right back up!... We discovered later that the impact bent the entire car evidenced by th 3 inch gap when trying to close the rear deck. COINCidently it was like 30 miles from my
brother's house so I spent the night in my wrecked car
at the tow lot and the next day we took the car to my
brothers house, put it in the garage and went out
window shopping for another car for me - My brother
said he could afford to spend $3,000 on a car for
me..... so we went out "window"
shopping/driving/looking for a new car for me ....
SO... I see another Saab (1988 Black Turbo/Convertible, a definite upgrade from my 900S for $500... It has a bad auto trans... go figure.... I, however have a brand new clutch system/manual trans in my 900s)
THEN, I find some more Saabs at a garage where the mechanic
was previously employed at a Saab dealership for the
last 20 odd years ........ So My brother and I
conspired to take my Saab, and the $500 Saab to the
Saab mechanic and have him take the 5 speed stick
transmission out of my car and put it into the $500
Saab (cuz that one has a bad transmission, BUT...
it's also a CONVERTIBLE (yey!!!) and a
turbo...heeeheee)
So the next day we went to the Car dealer - he was the
epitome of car dealer - tall older man wearing cowboy
shirt n straight blue jeans.... we got the Saab for
$300 and he towed it over to the mechanic ........
So thats where my Saabs now sit, in Asheville, in the
hands of a master mechanic from Tampa, Now relocated in Asheville, NC
HIGHLY RECCOMEND him - John Johnson. He did the swap, replaced dash, lights, etc... looked over entire car for $900
I'm flying up there next week to drive the car back here to JAX, apprxmtly 6 hours.
By the Way...... Asheville is BEAUTIFUL! Reminds me
alot of Ithaca, including the huge hippy population!
I am still baffled by tthe way all the circumstances
worked out for me as I went thundering through those
great smoky mountain passes in the middle of the
night.
My brother rented a U-haul trailer and loaded all my
stuff from the car and drove it here to
Jacksonville.... where today it's a Fall Like 85
degrees and sunny........ it was cool last night, but
warms quickly.
That Saab was a Tank!
