My 1990 900s NA 182k miles has recently developed a knock audible at start-up and at idle which sounds like it is coming from the valvecover. It dissappears as the RPM 's increase. I also have a check engine light which has come on and is staying lit. ( I've always had issues with the check engine light in this car. It has come on and them gone off without warning for years and the mechanics I seen have all said don't worry it's a common problem with this year.) Would a failed knock sensor allow a knock to develop and trigger the warning light? I'm hoping the knock sensor is bad, rather than an impending valve job.....
