Water Pump Replacement

For quite some time, my '88 900S had been making a strange, loose belt noise - not squealy, but loose - that seemed to go away as the engine warmed up. I occasionally tightened the alternator bracket nut a little to keep it all snug properly snug. Just before Hurricane Wilma swept across Florida I tightened a bit of slack out of the alternator belts using the little nut right there under the brake fluid reservoir. At that time I also noticed that some of the nuts on the water pump pulley were looking loose. I tightened those and then went to crank up to go fill 'er up with gas. As soon as she fired up, it sounded like the pulley was about ready to throw itself out of the engine compartment. I immediately turned the car off and inspected the damage... Seemingly, the water pump was now draining itself onto the driveway.
I have read some posts as to the relative ease of pump replacement. As long as I can do it without taking all of the R-134a out of the a/c system, I'll do it. My 900 isn't my daily driver so having it disabled isn't too big of a deal. Any assistance or tips on replacement is greatly appreciated - so are any simple "yes do it" replies or "no, go see the mechanic" ones too. :-)
Thanks much!
James
