Yes, the use of a shorter belt(s) would readily resolve the issue of one less pulley.
And yes, Saab pumps are very good..., that is unless a previous owner has neglected to do proper maintenance ( a fate that many Saab's suffer because they are machined/engineered so well that atypically obvious problems are overlooked by the casual owner [read as "non-enthusiasts"] because they continue to run so well pretty much irregardless of their actual deteriorating mechanical condition).
Other than that, the "benefit" that you'd aachieve from the installation of an electric pump would be twofold in that you'd achieve increased coolant flow (equalling a cooler operating engine) and reduced drag on the engine with the minus of the WP's pulley (equalling increased engine performance and a cooler engine).
