This site has been a great resource for me and all of my saabs that i have owned. I will always own a saab but have been recently faced with a new dilema. I have a 87 900TC with about 156k. I have recently replaced the Fuel Pumps and Radiator. It needs a headgasket with no visible signs of needing a headgasket at the moment but had a very reliable experienced Saab mechanic verify that it is going to eventually go. should be between 500 to 1000 to repair. Not to worried about that. Recently it has been brought to my attention by my mechanic that the tranny is going to go out. I kind of knew because of the excessive noise. that is going to cost between 1700 and 2500. It is a 5 speed by the way. The body is straight and suspension is good. I have been reading that the earlier model trannies are better. Should I have my 87 rebuilt? Should I put a newer 90 or 91 transmission into it? Or should I give up on my 87 and move onto something a little newer. I'm looking at about 3500 and it needs a top and also needs motormounts and possibly mass air flow meter. I love the car but am wondering if I'm beating a dead horse. Any input and or suggestions would be most appreciated.
