Hi Bruce. I don't have the Saab manual where I'm at and my memory is no good on the spec's. "Never remember something that you can look up" (A. Einstein), but there is a square headed bolt projecting from the case with a lock nut. The procedure is basically; tighten the bolt to a specified torque in inch pounds, (so you'll need an inch pound torque wrench) and then back it off a specified number of turns. Then lock the nut down. On the inside adjuster you do that procedure with a special spacer between the servo and adjuster bolt. The spacer thickness varied some from model year to model year (transmission series to series). Your "83 is probably a series 006 or 008, its on the torque convertor housing. You'll need to get the spec's. from a freindly Saab guy with the section 4 book and borrow the little spacer tool that's right for your series. Or, mic. the tool and make one of your own. I hardly ever got to do this with the unit in the car because I was rebuilding them, but if you already found the band adjuster that's under the rear pan you are halfway home. Good luck and don't put anything except type F trans. fluid in there when you're done.
