What's up with 4th gear?

Took my '93 900S out for a good run tonight. Windy roads followed by straight runs on freeways and then more windy roads. Couldn't help but feel the "No Man's Land" between 4th and 5th gear. In 5th after 65 Mph it really kicks in and the RPMs go up past 3k. But in 4th around 55-65 its flat with Rpms staying strong at 2K. Seems like the 3rd gear is long and 4th is short. 3rd could very well run from 35 to 55. And the famous 5th gear is the great overtaker above 65 to 85. But what am I not doing in 4th? Is there more top gear and how do I get it?
Thanks,
Jason
