Hi jw. What you have is 'base boost only'. This is usually cause by a problem with the APC system or a rent in one of the boost pipe hoses. I use this trick to help narrow down the cause; Take your hemostat and clamp the hose that goes from the APC solenoid to the boost pressure regulator (wastegate control diaphragm unit). That eliminates APC regulation of the turbo. (You can also just pull the hose off of the regulator nipple). Drive the car and see if the boost goes ballistic. DON'T blow up your engine! Get off of the throttle once you've seen the boost gauge hit the red. If you still only have base boost then it's probably a split in a boost hose and your turbo pressure is escaping short of the intake manifold. If you get good boost during the test drive then you should troubleshoot the APC system and that's about 4 more paragraphs. Of course it could be a defective wastegate, a bad intake manifold gasket or any number of other problems but most often it's APC or split hose. Be sure that you have no vacuum leaks also and be sure that your turbo oil supply is flowing and your crankcase is full of fresh oil. There are lots of good descriptions of APC troublshooting on the web. I think Townsend has a good one at his site and search posts here at Saabnet. Good luck.
