It's not far fetched. The knock sensor is essentially a dynamic microphone I believe. On early C900's there was a problem with the K.S. cable contacting the flywheel shroud and collecting vibrations that would kill the boost. Re-routing the cable was the solution. Try unbolting the K.S. and wrapping it in a towel. Then drive the car and see if it boosts properly. Troubleshooting the APC is really pretty simple and Townsend has an excellent description of the process on his site I recall. Loose electrical connections are often the problem. Good luck.
