88 SPG 193K Lots of recent work including AMM, head gasket/head recon.

Car developed a problem on this trip where, at highway speed, the engine would cut out, like the motor was momentarily starved of fuel or juice, then spring back to life. Got worse and worse until it finally died, but restarted after sitting for a few minutes.

I nursed it into Rochester last night, and spent the night. It's at a shop (RITER RESTO in East Rochester), and I have access to lots of tools this morning, but no Bentley.

Any ideas or help would really be appreciated. Here's the fuller story if you want some background.

A month ago I had the head gasket replaced/head reconditioned by Paul Dolmetsch in Bennington (Site sponsor, great guy). Drove the car for a couple of weeks, ran fine, finally replaced the AMM with Eeuro rebuilt to correct the long-standing cold weather idle problem. Decided the car was good for a road trip and left for Ohio.

On the highway car ran great for 700 miles, then had a kind of stutter coming up a hill as the cruise pushed the accelerator, than again as it backed down. No big deal. Continued without a problem.

Next day drove half the day no problem.

Yesterday on way back to NY car ran fine for a few hours, then began to stutter a bit going up hill, then stutter intermittently if I pushed the gas a bit.

Problem got worse and during one episode west of Buffalo it just cut out altogether, but restarted after it sat for a while.

Continued to have more frequent episodes, but I managed to limp into Rochester with the car dying out and restarting, including dying while in in the toll booth, at idle.

I don't have ready access to the net, so I am going to hope for some early risers to day and check back in a couple of hours. Thanks in advance.
