Ball joints are the likely culprit here. You need to put a spacer of wood, or metal, between the upper control arm and the body before it is jacked up. Look at the opening in the body and the upper arm, this will tell you approx how much of a spacer you need. I use a set of stacked 1/4" metal pieces taped together, but anything that's about 3/4" to 1" should be OK. The ball joints are easy to install and typically take 1 hour from the time the car is driven in and driven out. The parts are fairly cheap and it makes sense to do both the upper and lower while you are in there. Figure about $100 +/- for the parts and labor. Alignment will be extra and you should complete all the front end work before doing it. The front lower shock bushing is also a good thing to replace for a few bucks too. Any torn/worn CV boots are good to replace now too...along with brake pads, if needed.
