Re-engineering the heater valve?

Has anyone ever changed the type of heater valve that's in a c900 to something completely different, and, with a solinoid control ?
I'm looking for a way to get the heater control valve out of the interior and into the engine bay.
Fabrication work is not a problem, but I need some idea's as to which kind of car might have a bypass style valve. The (hot) water needs to be directed to the pump if the control is turned to off.
I think there's a BMW valve that will work, but I'm not sure, I haven't been able to see one yet.
I was just wondering if if anyone's done this or has some insight.
My goal is to put the heater/climate controls in the center console between the seats, but the heater valve is mechanically operated and I would need something electric or vacuum actuated. Any thoughts are appreciated.
