Tushy, that's a good one. So if I get this you're cruising and put in neutral and coast and you don't hear the clicking. So it's not axle related. Yea it could be a pinion bearing or cluster shaft bearing or a synchro spring retainer that's shot or input ass'y bearings or... Me, I'd jack up one front wheel with the car in gear (engine off), turn the wheel by hand and try to pinpoint the clicking. Of course if it's in the transaxle there are only a few things that can be fixed without pulling the unit. Look for little pieces of sheet metal on the drain plug. How well does it shift? Hard going into fifth?
