The companion flanges (aka. inner drivers) and their housings bolt to the main case with six 8mm bolts. The bolt holes go through the case so the bolts must be coated with a sealant before installation. Saab uses a "locktight" like sealant, I always use "Permatex #2 form-a-gasket" and I've never had these bolts to come loose. If someone previously worked down there and didn't know to seal the bolts or left one loose/out then there's your leak. There is also an O'ring on the c. flange housing and they go bad eventually. Then there is the axle seal itself. Of course they go bad too, sooner on the side by the exhaust. Get genuine Saab seals for this as there are some lame ones in the aftermarket. There is also a seal and O'ring in the speedo drive unit but that usually won't cause a large leak. And yes, all of this is totally fixable with the gearbox in the car. Good luck.
