caajun,
Mechanic's name is Bill Schultz. Hell of a nice guy and a great mechanic who ONLY worked on C900s and older saabs. His cars are in at least two different places. His parts/fix 'em up yard was on earhart blvd. near jeff davis in the back of a used car lot called Econo-Rent-A-Car. I haven't been there since before the storm, but I recall one fixed up red convertible, one nice red convertible with a blown auto transmission, maybe two lack luster convertibles and several coupes, sedans and hatchbacks. I haven't been there to check high water lines, but my guess is above the tops of the doors at least.
His house, location #2, which wasn't too far away, is on vincennes street near rocheblave i believe. In fact i went by his house today to speak with him. A sad sight indeed. Parked across the street from his house were two nice convertibles, one red and one black. I believe the black one was a daily driver for him. Also present was a questionable turbo and a couple of other nice looking turbo coupes. His neighbor has a turbo in the driveway. Looking at these cars closely I realized that the high water line went damn near the top of the cars. Also, across the street in another driveway is a nice '71 96 which was NOT flooded and belongs to one of his customers. I know this because I almost bought the thing a couple of months ago (when it was parked at a different location), but the seller backed out at the last minute, electing to hold onto it. Bill, unfortunately, does not believe in cell phones, so the only way to contact him is to go by his house when he happens to be working on it (which is the majority of daylight hours).
I really haven't discussed the idea of parting any cars out with him yet, although that was why I went today, and I don't know what his plans are. When I talked to him a few weeks ago he was understandably distraught having just returned to the city and beginning the process of cleaning up. He was also noticeably upset at losing his tools. Didn't think it was a great time to talk about scavenging the collection for odds and ends.
