86 SPG suddenly running very rich... help!

Hello TSN,
My 86 SPG has been running great for years without any major FI problems except for a bad AMM a couple of years ago.
Last night I was driving somewhere and when I drove home, I noticed that my Autometer Air/Fuel Ratio gauge was showing the car was running rich upon the slightest throttle opening. At a traffic light idling, the idle was pretty rough and followed the cycling of the lean/stoich/rich activity on the gauge. While idling it looks normal on the gauge, but when driving it immediately goes rich. When letting off the throttle, it goes so lean that it doesn't even register on the gauge.
The o2 sensor is only a couple years old and was a generic bosch unit. I installed it when changing out my exhaust system.
Do these o2 sensors sometimes fail in a matter of years? I hardly put any miles on this car. It probably has had less than 25k miles put on it since I've replaced that o2 sensor.
I do have a 3.0bar FPR that's of questionable age, and I'm wondering if it could have died internally and is just flooding the FI system with fuel. Can that happen?
BTW, the fuel pump seemed to be running very loud and I could hear it from my driver's seat.
