With a classic Saab you get a lot of car for the money, if you are willing to get your hands dirty. If your going to be taking your car for every minor thing to a independent, then most of the time you would save by buying a not too old Honda for two or three times as much.
But, if you will fix someminor things yourself and have access to a good independent for the bigger jobs, then IMHO, a classic Saab is an outstanding choice and can be reliable.
My first Saab only stranded me after it was stolen, and some things in it were trashed.
