Heat sink auto trans cooler?

Well, it looks like I need to replace: BOth lower radiator hoses, the transmission cooler, and lines to the automatic transmission.....
So, I'm thinking of simplifying/improving the system, wanted to run it by the experts..... I am thinking of replacing the whole setup with a standard lower radiator hose, and replacing the trans cooler with a frame mounted Derale heatsink cooler or a normal frame mounted oil cooler. BOth sill fit nicely, and have to be better than that goofy setup currently on there........
I know there were some autotransmissions (early?) with an inline cooler, but was themostatically controlled. I will just run it straight, out of direct airflow to prevent over cooling, but enough to provide adequate. By my figures, I will save about $250 greenbacks doing it this way, scavanging the existing lines/fittings and making custom lines.
Any thoughts??
