200k Today! Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Finally, finally, finally! COOL!!! I always knew she could do it. Where to now? Well, the sky's the limit, I guess. Judging from the parts car classifieds, they'll last 260-280 or so mechanically. My main enemy (not my mind) is rust, but recent inspections of the floor pan and A-arm attachment points show no rust.
Major mechanical things that are still original after 17 years on chassis number 002290:
Starter Motor
Heater Fan (scheduled for replacement)
Windshield (now THAT'S aerodynamics- proudly bears its August, 1987 date stamp!)
Motor/Head (Well duhhh, 8 valve motors, say no more)
CV joints and driveshafts (inner drivers scheduled for replacement)
The FUEL PUMP?!? Yikes!
All four wheels
Brake booster (M.C. is 25k gone)
Power Steering Rack and Pump
Headlights, Hood, Grille (200k is statistically a long way to go without any collisions)
All Wheel Bearings
And the best part: My last tank of gas gave me 31 miles per gallon. (warmer temperatures and CI injection is suddenly efficient)
Major Stuff That Broke:
POS automatic (now 5 speed)
Two water pumps
Three idle regulator valves
Heater Core
Heater Valve (actually replaced before it failed)
Three rear brake calipers and two parking brake cables
Four exhausts
Crank pulley
Motor mounts (still rubber on 8 valve)
Two radiators
...
Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to add another car to the High Mileage Registry. Drive safely, and watch out for snakes.
