First, I want some springs. I want them to lower the car, but I don't want speciffic rate springs and I don't want to slam the car to the ground. I have to get the car in the driveway. I want them stiffer than stock turbo springs, but not "struts". I would like a somewhat nose down attitude. Right now every time I start from a dead stop the front end raises 5 or 6 inches and the ass end squats and I get a floaty feeling when transitioning from one direction to the other. I have new ball joints, front hubs, front sway bar bushings and rear panhard rod bushings waiting to go on but I want to do the springs at the same time because I'm lazy. New bilstiens and trailing arm bushings were put on a few months ago.
Give me some suggestions. Inexpensive would be good, as long as the quality is there.
Second, I have got too much vibration making it into the cabin from the motor, possibly the exhaust. I need a list of places to look. Motor mounts and I guess control arm bushings but is there anyplace else? The tail pipe will vibrate against the back end of the car, but only when taking off from a dead stop on going up hill. (see question 1)
Third, Does anyone know where I can get non toothed belts to replace my belts? Seems there was a time no-one offered toothed belts except dealers and now I cant find anything else. I can feel extra vibration coming from the toothed belts I recently put on.
This isn't a question, but I just wanted to say I hate hydraulic clutches. They are never the same from one press to the next and the feel sucks. Anyway...
Fourth, I have stock SPG wheels on my 85 turbo. Any recommendations on the widest tire I can put on without clearance issues?
I'm almost done with this "statment". Either the changes will deliver the expected results or.....well we won't talk about that. A project, by definition has an end but everytime I fix something on this car it just makes everything else that needs fixed stand out that much further. The problem is that I don't have anything to base my results on. If I fix or replace something, I just have to assume thats how it's supposed to be. And while I have been pretty happy with the results so far, I'm not sure if it is possible to achive the results I'm looking for. So after I make the changes outlined above I'm going to have to evaluate whether or not this is a car I want to keep.
