and feel the oil between your fingers--you'll be surprised by how thick it feels. There's a reason "highway miles" are significantly easier on a car's mechanical components, even though more time is spent at higher rpms. Cold starts are where the most engine wear takes place regardless of what type of engine oil you use--and yes it would be less so with a synthetic. There's a reason most people in extreme environments like Alaska have block heaters on their cars--in Michigan where I live the effect is less severe, in Florida it's probably minimal. You're not going to throw a rod because you don't warm up, the effect is more likely to be along the lines of needing a ring job at 150K instead of 200K. Of cource no one has even done any research on this subject that I'm aware of, so it pretty much boils down to opinion.
