Strange ABS Warning Light

This is on a 91 900NA. I got the steady orange ABS light last Saturday on my way home going pretty fast through a big dip on the highway. The light stayed on even after turning the ignition off and on again. Followed the diagnostic procedure from Townsend (great site, surprised that this ABS info is not included in the Bentley) and got two codes. Signals from left and right rear sensor missing. I have never messed with these sensors so I was surprised tht they both would give a bad signal at the same time. Checked the sensor connections and both looking good. The orange light was gone ofter the check and stayed off after driving it a little. Drove it this morning and the light came back on steady again after a couple of stops. Stayed on after turing off and on. Checked the codes tonight and got 4444; no codes stored. I did not drive it after this but in case it stays on, should I check for something else or should I look for a replacement ABS ECU?
