I've been using silicone hoses for the past 5 years or so on my SPG. If anything, I have a heck of a time getting the hoses off the vacuum nipples because they grip so well. I'm using a thick-wall hose that I got at a speed shop so, if what you got is fairly thin, it may not grip as well and require the wire ties.
I have more of a problem with the rubber caps for unused vacuum nipples blowing off under boost. That's where I use the wire ties.
