Check the link for the LH FAQ page, go down a ways for instructions to pull the fault codes. But the jumper wire is in the wrong location.
Beginning in '89 or so, the plug that you jumper is under the back seat, not under the hood.
Just right of center, held in a metal bracket, there's a black plastic plug. Probably has a cover to snap off. It's a 10-pin plug with only a few pins present. You want the right-side row, 2nd from the back.
You can use a piece of wire with a 1/8" spade connector. Either put in a switch or simply touch it to ground.
