Does anyone know how many hours they are billing for the R & R? my buddy thought should be about 8 hours? Do you think that correct? I'd check local trans shops to see if they could rebuild and only replace necessary parts. Similar to taking a head to the machine shop. They tell you if you need intake and/or exhaust valves (or not!), do a pressure test and resurface. Tell you if it passes or you need another one.
We did an Auto R & R between two cars over a weekend. Had to purchase an engine hoist, but could have rented one for about $40 for the weekend. I wanted to have one :) so went ahead and spent $150. Local junk yards will sell used 5 speeds for $135. I most likely will purchase one and get it rebuilt locally.
Where are you located?
