Hello everyone,
Well, I am also done with my refurbishment on my 1985 Saab Turbo 900 SPG. The engine is back and connections connected. I have a couple of questions...
1. The ingition when on will not turn the starter. I have a good starter. I have jumped the power wire from the battery and the Sol yellow wire and the starter turns that way but not with the igniation.
2. I took off cover and disassembled the ignition and noticed the little gear that goes to the key cylinder was broken and thought that was the promblem, but when I turned the ignition itself, I hear the clink but the starter will not turn. If I turn the ignition using the little gear to turn it, the starter should engage, right? When I turn the ignition, everything else comes on--light, heater fan, etc.
3. What wire do I use to hot wire it to see if it will turn the starter. There are six wires to the ignition itself. Red, etc. which wires do I put together to hot start it or is there more than two wire to put together to do this?
Any troubleshooting procedures would be nice. I have read each and every posting on this website. This is a manual transmission by the way. Is there anything that I have disconnected that would cause this. For example, I disconnected the shift to disassemble the ignition system. I am not sure if the car has to be in reverse to start the car since I have disassembled the ignition. By the way, I have to bleed the clutch to get the car in reverse if that is the problem. I am just looking for any advice. Thanks for any imput guys. george
