what he was saying is to remove the bolts that hold the lower ball joint to the lower A arm. Then you should be able to pull it towards you (away from the car) and up, this will allow the splined shaft to pull out from the hub and that will allow you to either remove the CV joint, or to pull the entire axle assembly out and do the work on a bench (or change the entire unit). If you are going to remove the entire axle you need to open the clamp on the inner boot (the larger end - farthest from the brake rotor) to allow the entire boot to come off *before* you start on the bolts. You really only have to remove the "knuckle" that's the part that has the hub with the lugs or bolt holes, that the rotor rides on, and that the caliper bolts to it's upper ball joint bolts to the upper A arm, and the lower ball joint bolts to the lower A arm, and lastly it has a trailing steering arm that bolts to the steering rack via a tie rod end.
You only need to remove the caliper to either replace the rotor, or to replace the hub/bearings. you can also take it off to make putting ball joints on, but you don't have to.
and, the knee bone is connected to the thigh bone... or something like that.
