Or at least for mine. After pricing parts and considering the labor involved in DIYing everything from the inner drivers out, I thought I was saving money and time by buying whole rebuilt axles. They had all new rubber boots, came with tripod grease and the CV joints prepacked and sealed, and sure slid into place real nice. Less than six months later, however, I started getting this disurbing 'pop' when changing turning directions, and less than two years on the new rubber CV boots are already about to crack open. A Saab master mechanic who has his own indie garage told me that the pop happens when the "core"/nonreplaceable parts of CV joints are worn beyond spec, no matter how well they are relubricated, and that the rubber boots rebuilds have on both ends are shorter, less flexible, and will deteriorate faster than the OE bearing-and-boot replacement kits.
So it seems we are still getting what we pay for here.
