Michael, If it whines on deceleration that is very likely the final drive. Before you drive any farther check the level and condition of the gear oil in the final drive. Your T-37 automatic transaxle has type F atf in the transmission part but it has 80-90 gear oil in the back end where the final drive is (hopefully). There is a drain plug on the bottom at the back kind of between the axles. The filler plug is on the side about half way up. Park the car level and fill it to the plug hole. Let it settle a while and check it again. I used to see lots of these T-37s with destroyed final drives (ring and pinion gears) because no one ever thought to check the gear oil out back and it does leak out. Good luck.
