if it latches and holds speed for awhile it's either a vaccum leak or the speed sensor is wacky. try this test. get out and set it for 65 and cruise, when it starts to drop off push the lever as if you had (but don't!) touched the brakes or clutch and want to RESUME the speed. if it goes back to the speed previously set (ie, you coasted to 55, resumed, and it accelerated back to 65) then the problem is either vaccum related or one of the switches is going flaky. suggest you check the switches for brake/clutch and make sure good clean connections. after that you are back to the vaccum. So try this, before the test start turn the air distribution switch in the middle of the dash to the big zero. this prevents any vaccum draw in that area *although* they may still be leaking off... A/C off. do the 65 mph test again. Note changes, if it holds the speed longer you have a Vaccum leak, most likely in the dash area. after you have shut down can you move the distribution switch to defrost and hear the baffels move? do this several times to all of the settings. if you can do about 5-8 of these and have it complete you may have a vacuum leak at the reseviour thing in the right fender well. take it out and do a leak test in the tub, you'll figure it out.
