I removed the oil filter and air inlet to gain more room (no trick there).
There are 4 bushings, 2 for the "stay" (large bracket that the adjusting nut turns against) and 2 for the bottom of the alternator. I didn't realize this there were this many when I started, but fortunately I purchased them from the dealer who kindly informed me (and also charged me a premium price).
The hardest part is the large bolt on the bottom of the alternator (17mm),
once you remove the nut, it should slide out towards the passenger compartment, but of course, it is slightly too long. The effect is that the alternator cannot be easily romoved from the bracket. There three bolts holding the bracket to the engine. On my car, two were 6mm hex bolts and one (with the alternator ground) was a standard 10 or 12mm bolt(it too was too long to allow removal with the alternator in place). I found it tough trying to remove the bottom hex. You have to simultaneously swivel the alternator up and remove the hex at the same time. I was afraid of stripping the hex.
What I did was remove the left most hex (easy to get to once the oil filter is out of the way) and top bolt (with the ground wire). The bottom hex nut was not so tight and I was able to slightly turn the bracket counterclockwise allow me to remove the alternator bolt. With the bolt out, the alternator could be removed from the bracket allowing easy access to the bottom hex(which did strip slightly, but would have been a total loss had I tried to remove it with the alternator in place).
It will be an easier job next time. Plus I'll buy the bushings from one of the site sponsors.
good luck
