Motor will only run with foot on gas pedal

Hi, no weirdness to report leading up to this other than an unusually high (1100) RPM coming home from work today in 40 degree dry weather. Went out to start the car after sitting almost 3 hours and it won't turn over. It will start however if i keep my foot on the gas pedal. It's plenty dark and i haven't gone out with a flashlight to look for tell-tale things like a cracked vacuum line but here's what i'm thinking be sure to correct me if i'm wrong:
-Car is getting spark or motor wouldn't run at all.
-Fuel pump is functioning properly if stepping on gas pedal keeps motor running.
Stuff i've done recently:
-Had battery disconnected last weekend to replace a broken t.signal stalk. re-tightened negative lead, car ran fine.
-Replacement stalk was not Cruise Con. equipped, but CC has never worked so i left the wiring harness in dash where it lives.
-Recently had broken brittle Alternator (smallest wire) wire when changing the oil, had fixed that by re-attaching wire to new connector.
I have a spare AMM, ECU, and the diamond-shaped ignition module (ignition amplifier?) that lives on the driver side fender from an older hard to diagnose (was CKP sensor) problem 2 years ago. Any advice? What would allow the motor to run with the foot on the pedal? Any help is greatly appreciated, this is my only car.
