I was trying to replace the filter on my 9000, and the banjo fittings just wouldn't let go. I eventually bent the filter case where it attaches to the banjo fitting and still it would not loosen. Now I couldn't drive it to my local indie since gas would stream out if I tried to start the car. I had to have it towed to his shop, so a cheap DIY turned expensive very quickly!
I have replaced many of these filters on all different Saab's, and that was the only one that ever caused me grief. One thing to do is to start the engine, then pull the fuel pump fuse until the engine dies (which de-pressurizes the fuel system). Then the only gas that will come out of the banjo fittings will be whatever is still in the lines. It also will not spray out at you now. Put a pan under the filter to catch the dripping gas (there really won't be much). Then spray the heck out of the fittings with PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, WD40...whatever you like to use. Be prepared for them to not move, though. I have seen posts from other people who have had tough times with these fittings.
btw, the fittings like to break if you play too hard with them, and replacing them is not fun!
