Yes it's a half moon woodruff key sunken into a groove on crank shaft.

The woodruff key support the timing chain sprocket, a drive sleeve for oil pump and holding the crank shaft pulley, but it's main job is to hold the timing chain sprocket lined up so that the cam timing doesn't change.

It is not possible to pull the key out without removing the oil pump sleeve and timing chain sprocket (which mean pulling the timing cover).

In a really tight squeaze, it is possible to just tighten the crank pulley down with the center bolt and the pressure from the bolt will be enough to hold the pulley in place and let it drive all the belts without slipping.

You better study the crank shaft surface too where the pulley ride on.

Usually, the main reason why the outer end of the woodruff key break is because the center bolt has not been tighten to spec and the crank pulley came loose, slowly eating up the key but and the same time rumbling around on the crank shaft, wearing it out.

So if the new crank pulley only loosely fit on the crank shaft and you can flip/flop it back and forth on the shaft, it means that the crank shaft is worn too.

Either way, you only have two options. Tighten the crank pulley bolt a little bit harder than spec and hope for the best or pulling the front engine cover off and replacing the key or pulling the engine and replacing the crank shaft or engine.
