These cars are pretty straightforward to get running again. If you've got no spark, my pointers put you in the direction of the crank position sensor. As far as the transmission, it may be something as simple as changing the rubber "brick" in the shift linkage, putting some new fluid in, and realigning if necessary, or it could be major. These gearboxes won't take a whole lot of abuse, but the aforementioned fixes worked great for me, to the tune of $85 (fancy fluid and new gaskets included). I understand that's a third of the value of the car in your case, but what have you got to lose? 150k is just beyond pacifier stage as far as I'm concerned.
