My turn signal lever fell apart in my 1990 model Saab...the lever came off in my hand! I went to a junkyard today, and found a good donor vehicle...an early 80's model turbo. It had the sealed beam headlamps vs the composite. I removed the switch and installed it on my car. Everything matched up perfectly except the cruise control plug. Mine has a square plug, where the new one had a flat connector that looked very similar to an IDE disk drive power connector on a computer. I cut this connector off and soldered on my connector off of the old switch, matching all the colors.
The issue is that the cruise control doesn't work properly now, so I am figuring there is either some internal logic differences in the older switch, or the wiring colors don't correspond to the same thing in the newer vehicles.
When I turn the switch on, the "Cruise" light illuminates just like it always did. Previously, If I pushed the set button on the end of the lever in, the car would lock onto a speed. If I held the button in, the car would start to slowly accellerate. Now, with the new switch, if I push the "set" switch in, the cruise control will not lock onto a speed. If I push it a second time for a moment, the car will start accellerating like I am holding the set button in, but I am not. Tapping the brake, or turning it off will stop the unwanted accelleration.
Any thoughts to what is different between the old and the new, or was I just dumb, and mixed up the wires!
