Sorry for being vague below, but I did a LOT of searches on this board a couple years ago, I think along the lines of "manual transmission flush" or "gearbox flush" or "5spd-" somesuch because I was in the process of converting my '88T auto to a manual with a used 5spd and I wanted to get the inside as excruciatingly clean as possible before running an Amsoil synthetic in it. Anyway, there are some members here who've put waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time and research into 5spd additives (thanks, guys!) and I remember reading *somewhere* that IF Lucas oil actually does anything for your car it does it in the motor oil between pistons and cylinders, but that in the spinning environment of a gearbox it can actually foam up at high speed (picture what a bottle of water does once you add dish soap and shake) and provide LESS viscous mass to separate touching metal parts. Sorry I can't provide a specific link, but if you try various combinations of the search terms above I'm sure you'll come across it.
I wound up running several changes of 10w-30 thru mine to get any sediment off the bottom and then finishing off with an Auto-Rx treatment, which I'm about to refill now with the synthetic, and the difference Was profound, despite my immediate adolescent romping (wooHOO!) on the new stick shift...
That drain plug is TIGHT. I remove mine with a 4' length of pipe slid over the long part of my L-shaped Allen key. Consider trying that, but also consider that for the negligible price of a new rear cover gasket you could just carefully spray/wipe out the entire bottom with brake cleaner and see what all was building up in there.
I just wouldn't recommend the Lucas oil for it.
