You did the head gasket chore? First time? If you have fuel and spark, but still no spark, then the other possibilities are cam timing is way off, and/or the distributor setting is way off. I kinda lucked out recently when I dropped in an upgraded head. I initially set the distributor in the exact position as with the previous head, but it turned out to be way advanced for this head. I can't say exactly what the difference between the two heads is. It started, but barely. Had it not started because of the ignition timing being too far off, I probably would have spent who knows how long trying to figure out the problem. Bad running told me there was a timing problem and a strobe gun put things right. Then I had a fuel air ratio issue, but that's another subject. On a previous engine swap, I had the distributor setting off so much that it wouldn't start initially. A rough distributor setting is the vac advance unit basically level on top of the distributor, and then rotated some 10 degrees toward the right side of the car. Give or take a couple of degrees. You could also have the plug wires connected wrong on the distributor. I've done that too. Keep in mind the flood factor when cranking an engine over. May have to remove the plugs and allow cyl's to dry. Or disconnect the fuel pump and allow the engine to crank over to circulate some air in and out.
