Hi all-
1986 16V NA auto...starts great, idles well cold and warm but when I step on the gas, the rpms drop like a rock and she wants to stall. Let off the gas,BAM the rmps go back to normal immediately.
What I have to do when driving her is at stop signs and traffic lights, just 'gently' sort of push the pedal 2-3 times and then usually it will sort of 'catch' and take off like a rocket. Ticks people behind me off!
Runs perfect otherwise. When it does this, sometimes I can stomp the pedal, and it'll bog down seem like it's firing on 1 or 2 cylinders for a couple seconds...then suddenly some 'small' backfiring, puff of black smoke, and she takes off. Runs smooth as a top other than this issue. Sucks to try and pull out into traffic!
Brand new: Bougicords, NGK plugs, dizzy cap, rotor (all Bosch), most vacuum lines replaced, AIC cleaned out, throttle cleaned out, so forth. AMM seems fine, timing is good. Air filter clean.
I was suspecting that the coil might be going, and under immediate load it won't fire properly, so all that gas is flooding the non-firing plugs for a couple seconds. I can switch it out with my other Saab for a trail this evening.
Or am I way off?
Many thanks to all for the help!
