OK, my 1986 900S 16V NA automatic has been having problems with running rich (I'm guessing)
It starts perfectly, and runs great when hauling down the road. My problem is when it's at idle, I push on the gas and it wants to die SO bad. The rpms drop but immediately recover if I take my foot off the gas. If I 'barely' push on the gas, sometimes it's ok and will rev up and will take off driving.
Now, I've checked the TPS and adjusted it for the 'click'. All of the vacuum lines have been replaced, new NGK, new Bougicord, new dizzy cap, new rotor, etc. etc. there's no smoke either, it seems to be fine when driving....just not when taking off.
I was watching it today while idling in the driveway, and noticed that the hose from the intake manifold to the AIC was FLAT FLAT FLAT, like it was being sucked flat. This is when the engine was just starting to get warm.
I revvved the engine up with my hand, and the hose got large like air was going thru it, when I revved it. At idle, FLAT.
I tapped the AIC with a hammer and the rpms bounced around a little. I've cleaned the AIC as spotless as I can get on the inside with carb cleaner. I've read when the TPS is clicked (throttle starts to open) it tells the AIC to 'stop working'. I'm wondering if the AIC is NOT shutting off, causing excess air to be sucked thru and my hesitation/stalling problem?
What do you think? Any help appreciated, and what are some tests I can do quickly without a meter?
Thanks to all for the suggestions in my other thread, I'm bringing my meter home tomorrow for electrical tests on the TPS, AMM, etc. as you all have suggested.
cheers!
