You've got to be pretty quick about it - the wire glows bright for only about a second or so, and depending on year, sometimes only 5 seconds after shut-down.
I assume the screens on the AMM are still in place - the ones that keep you from sticking your finger in there.
I guess it is possible that a wire that was about to let loose broke due to the movement required to get to the air filter. Not likely, but possible. I would disconnect the connector from the AMM and then put it back on. It's possible that you just dislodged the connector a little. If not, if you can swap in a known good AMM, that would be the best check. Just remember to get an AMM with the same dash number (like -005, -013, etc) or bad things will happen (AMMs are NOT interchangeable).
