how do you keep from getting too attached?

I struggled for a long time trying to come up with the right words to convey my problem. I think I've gotten close now.
I have a problem in getting attached to some cars. It's almost like Stephen King's "Cristine". I spend a lot of time money and effort trying to realize a vision I have concerning some cars. My 85 turbo is one of those, I also have a few BMW e21's that I get the same way with.
I could probably spend hours analyzing why that is, but what I want to know is how do you keep from getting in that spot to begin with? I have a 98 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport that is easily the most trouble free vehicle I've ever had and I've got more miles on it than I have on my SAAB, yet if it were to be destroyed tomorrow I'd say so what?
When something negative happens to the SAAB or one of the e21's I have to be carefull that I don't go into a state of depression because of it.
Somewhere I think I crossed over the line that devides enthusiast from nut job and I'm wondering how to get back and how the rest of you stay on the healthy side of the line.
Anyone want to share?
