2.1l Exhaust - Starla vs uh Flowmaster? Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() |
This is a first for me - rebuild a car to stock. I have no experience here. :)
The car is a '92 900, and the exhaust is so bad it's comical. The rear silencer/resonator body is totally detached from the pipe, so it slides back & forth on braking & acceleration. The intermediate pipe is a piece of flex pipe from Pep Boys. The hump over the rear axle is rusted through. The car sounds remarkably not bad, but rattles. Plus eventually that resonator is gonna slide off the end of the tailpipe. Into traffic. :|
I am debating right now between ordering the Starla OEM stuff or just having a local shop weld something up.
1. Do you need to drop the rear axle to install the Starla "kit", or will it fit in without any major surgery?
2. Anyone have any recommendations for a brand of muffler for the 2.1l that will give it a close-to-stock sound? I've done both Magnaflow and Dynomax mufflers on non-turbo 900s, and it's just gonna be too loud for this (which I intend to sell shortly). I was thinking maybe a flowmaster or something?
At the end of the day, the price will be comparable - $150+my time or $180 and the shop's time... Really this is about what's gonna sound/perform the best...
Thanks!
