I think most of us got the modified APC as the first modification. I know I did. I remember a former frequent TSN poster ==MONSTER== said that the modified APC was the "ARMY mod" because it "allowed your engine to 'be all it can be." I was excited about my first modification and I thought that a few extra PSIs would keep me happy for a while, but in reality it just got the ball rolling and I kept wondering about more mods and hungry for what I could do next.

Now that Jak has made an inexpensive SMIC that is much better than stock, and he's perfected the EPROM for fuel control with the 30# injectors, wouldn't either of those mods provide "more bang for the buck (~250-350 dollars") vs. the modified APC box?

As I understand it, the stock APC box is conservative in it's knock detection and boost taper, but the modified unit just allows you to run safely "closer to the edge." Of course the APC can't do anything about the leaning of fuel and hot intake charge air that is causing the ping/knock, it just does makes the best out of a bad situation.

Does anyone think it may be better to encourage newcomers to the c900 modification game to try to address some of these underlying issues as a first step? I don't know if the performance gains would be more or less or equivalent than the APC mod, but I think it's worth talking about. Once your car has a lot of mods (exhaust, fuel, timing, intercooler, etc...) does the modified APC even contribute anything more than the stock unit? I returned mine to spg9 as a core, so I can't do the experiment myself.

Since the 3.0BAR FPR is basically required along with the modified APC, would it be better to spend 300 dollars on an APC unit or on a fuel chip and 30# injectors or on a Talon Intercooler? I guess one thing the modified APC will always have going for it is that it is literally "plug and play" which is an attractive quality.

Blah...Blah...Blah...sorry
