i got it set to 1100 the reason is i need a new dashpot so when the idle drops after a hard take of it pings 500 then rebounds ill set it to 1000 when i get the new dashpot, reason i want it so high is for a.c. and what happend over the winter, while the weather was nice i didnt need ac so i droped the idle to a cool 700 everything was good but in the mornings i would have idle hunting problems or bouncing for the first 5 min, this never happend before i turned the idle down, i drove the winter at 700 rpms and every morning same thing bouncing, soon as it warmed up i turned the idle to 1000 (dashpot was still <OK>) and the hunting,bouncing morning idle was gone, now that the dashpots kaput, the motor hits 3-400rpms on high rpm let offs, so i turned it to 1100 and now it hits 500 on let offs and with a.c. runs 700,
bout my problem of the idle at the stop light, i was sitting here thinking perhaps i need new plugs, been running up the miles, started off to the auto parts store and it happend again at a light (motor droped to 300 and stayed there, it was in a dead miss, there was a car wash near by so i pulled in turned the car off and poped the hood, looking at all my wires,coil all looked good, but number 3 spark plug wire seemed to be lose but couldnt be sure that was the prob, after i started it up she ran fine, so i left traveling to the auto parts store, was all good for the first 3 min then it went into a dead miss while i was driven, looked behind me cloud of brown, limped it into the auto parts store and parked,
went in and asked for ngk,s they looked it up and had none in stock, i thought gr8 then asked for a coil, they didnt have that, but they were quick to say we can order it, so i walked back to the car and thought to pull the plugs and wire brush them, lest ill see what pistion is the miss,
pulled #3 plug and it was it just coverd, no way it could fire under all that, then pulled #2 this is when things got strange cause that plug looked the same as #3, pulled #1 and the same as 2and 3 pulled #4 and it was bad but it would be able to fire, wire brushed them clean and installed them, started the car it ran fine, it was no more than 50 sec till the miss fire happend again, went got some carb, cleaner and cleaned the injector contacts, tried it again ran fine once again then after 30 sec it went into a dead miss, shut it down went to the distributor and pulled the cap, to my surprise the roter looked to have some black gunk on the end of it like it was chared took a screw driver and cleaned the metal contact, when it was cleaned it looked to be in decent, i looked in the cap and all 4 points had the black gunk, i mean it looked like a pile of burned stuff on top of the point, i used the screw driver and scraped the pile off the point, once again to my surprise the points didnt show a bit of ware, its as if the roter was sprayed with something, i dont know, after i cleaned it all, put it back together started her up, and she ran fine, but one thing i noticed, i been stuck in low boost, to ok boost, but had not had pure boost for some time, after this miss hap, once again have pure boost.
