Apologies to Ari & Anders: I still haven't made the time to check the power connections via the ABS fuse/relay box.
However, I did go in this past weekend & clean up all the contacts on the three fuses & two relays. Then, after dropping my daughter off at school & returning home this morning (about 4 mi round trip), when I shut off the car the ABS pump continued to run. (For all I know, it was running the entire time. Well, I mean after it eventually started.) I pulled the ABS pump relay to get it to stop.
The pump start time has been very inconsistent. Before I cleaned up the contacts, pump start time was just over a minute after I turned the key. Earlier this week, after cleaning the contacts, pump start time was almost immediate after I turned the key. Then this morning, pump start time had to be over a minute & a half (I got about four or five blocks before it started).
This really sounds like a flakey relay problem to me, but like I said, I haven't jumpered the power connections or relay box yet. (Are there any other tests I should do as well?) I was able to find an archive post by JohnK where he mentioned having to replace a bad ABS relay when his pump woudn't stop (to be safe, he replaced them both). Are either of these relays repairable by the DIY mechanic?
As always, thanks for any help.
