I'm all set to replace the front calipers and then flush and re-fill the brake system. I bought 4 containers of synth DOT 4 fluid (48 oz. total).
As I read the Bentley, it states that I should drain out 1 pint from each caliper to completely flush the old fluid. 1 pint = 16 oz., which means I need 1/2 gallon (64 oz.) of fluid just for that. Then I need approx. 24 oz. to fill the reservoir (that's how much I removed with a syringe), and then I need some to fill the power bleeder.
So, how much do I need to buy? Seems like I have to clear the shelves at all the stores according to what I read.
Also, I plan on removing the brake lines from the old calipers and letting whatever fluid is left in the system (since I removed most of it from the reservoir) to drain into a can. I don't plan on filling the system and bleeding it until both calipers have been replaced. Is this the correct procedure, or am I supposed to replace one caliper, then fill and bleed, and then do the other side? I will be flushing, filling, and bleeding the rears as well (but not replacing those calipers).
